Posted on April 28, 2015 by Matt Behnke

iStock_000053515392_SmallWhen we talk about foot conditions, we mainly focus on some of the top foot conditions adults have, but this blog will focus on the top foot conditions for children. There are a few things you should look out for with your children or grandchildren. This blog is going to explore these conditions and give a few pointers on what you can do to prevent and treat them, quickly and easily.

  1. Flatfoot is One of the Most Common Foot Conditions for Children

One of the most common foot conditions for children is flatfoot, which is where the child will have little to no arch in their foot. While babies are typically born without arches, they will develop over time, and you should check whether or not your child is developing them. If you notice he or she is not developing them, then it is time to seek medical help to figure out what to do. You can get child orthotics to help with arch supports, and keep their feet healthy as they age.

  1. Walking On Toes

Walking on tiptoes is one of the other common foot conditions for children with many children as they age because they want to be taller and to see things that cannot normally see. This is also common with toddlers who are just learning to walk. However, if your child continues to walk on his or her toes because it is hard to walk normally, you need to get it checked out. This could be a symptom of nerve damage or other serious conditions that could have a negative impact on your child’s growth and health. Go to your pediatrician if you start noticing this problem to get it sorted out quickly.

  1. Pigeon Toes

This is also referred to as in-toeing and is when your child walks with his or her toes pointed in towards each other. While this is normal amongst babies and toddlers, if your child continues to walk with pigeon toes, it could be a sign that his or her legs are not forming correctly. This can be corrected, however, with orthotics and help from your doctor. Get it checked out quickly if you notice to help prevent any future problems. Pigeon toes are common foot conditions in children, and can eventually lead to further foot problems as they approach their teenage years and when they are adults. This is why it is vital to get it worked on before it becomes too much of a problem, preventing future problems and pain.

  1. Walking Bowlegged

Walking bowlegged is one of the common foot conditions for children, and can either be hereditary or the symptom of a larger cause. If your child is walking bowlegged, it is time to take him or her to your pediatrician or podiatrist to learn just what the cause might be. It might be something minor, but no matter what it is, you still need to make sure you check it out to keep your child healthy. Many times, this can be corrected with child orthotics and further help from your doctor.

If you are looking for great orthotic devices to help with common foot conditions for children, then you are in the right place. The Orthotic Shop has excellent children orthotics that can help with multiple amounts of foot conditions. Take a look around to see just what you need for your child to help improve his or her foot and overall health.
