yes supportive and without being stiff--like plastic or leather.

Advantages: this shoe resists wear on the soles, which other shoes lack. this is important because i wont use shoe goo to patch my uneven gait scuffing.

Disadvantages: although i often use medium width, i would select wide in this shoe.
